My letter to the Editor in Minnesota

Israel's plan: It does want peace

In response to the July 6 letter "Israel's long-term plan: It's not about peace," I think that the author is unaware of some basic facts. First, Israel does want peace, and it demonstrated that last summer when it unilaterally disengaged from the Gaza Strip. Israel continues to demonstrate this by sending humanitarian aid and medicine into the Gaza, yet the Hamas-led government has time and again refused Israel's offers of peace.

Second, the writer claimed that Israel holds Palestinian women and juveniles in prison, but he did not mention they include 64 women and 91 juveniles who, according to Israeli Prison Authority Spokeswoman Orit Stelster, have thrown Molotov cocktails at Israeli civilians, transported knives into Israel in order to stab ordinary Israelis, and have been associated with terror organizations like Hamas and Islamic Jihad. These are dangerous people.

Third, the writer says the terrorists are holding only one Israeli soldier, but he doesn't mention that the terrorists attacked inside of Israel and kidnapped Cpl. Gilad Shalit while still firing Qassam rockets into neighboring Israeli towns. Just as the U.S. government is pledged to secure life, liberty and the chance to pursue happiness for us, so must Israel's government guarantee that its citizens will be secure and free.

If the Palestinians stopped terror, Israel would have no reason for curfews, fences, checkpoints and other defensive measures.

hi Jof gold
ONE QUESTION DO YOU REALLY THINK THAT sending humanitarian aid and medicine into the Gaza might be a good compansation 4 these poor civilians dying every day? is it really a away to show the good willing 4 peace specially when the withdrawel you are talking a bout was one-sida step not part of an agreement with the others whom you think should be caged liss than humans because this is the only way to make them stop being terrorists!!! dont you think that is alittle bit ( racism)or oh ya i dont think its part of your dictionary beacause its normal to treat ppl according to what they deserve as a whole so its normal to acuse a whole nation of being terrorist.

I think that since the Palestinian government is not providing the "poor civilians dying every day" with basic needs like food, water and medicine, someone needs to do this while they're busy trying to smuggle weapons from Egypt or launching kassams from Gaza. And the ONLY country who can separate the humanitarian needs of the Palestinians from the extremists in their society is ISRAEL.

If the Gaza dissengagement was a an agreement, as some want, then the Palestinian government -> aka HAMAS must recognize Israel's right to exist and dissarm. I don't think that any normal person can make an "agreement with others" while the others are holding a gun to their head. The ONLY thing one can do is to run as fast away from that person and make sure that that person is no where close to anyone who is in danger of being killed by them. If that means arresting them, checking them, taking all precautions nessesary, then I would surely do this, than rist being killed by suicidal maniacs.

I never accuse the ordinary Palestinians of being terrorist, but I do think that some exremists within their society speak for the whole group while innocent people suffer the concequences of thier actions. If these innocent people want to live free of the concequences of thier fellow men, then they must all out reject terrorism and the extremist ways of their society. Only then will the moderate voices be hear clearly.

im sorry i think that you forgot that Gaza dissengagement was before the Palestinian election....dont use hammas as an excuse. and pliz dont be afraid hammas wont destroy you city the way your army did to many lebaness cities making people as targets for its ugly goals ...just to have a clue about what im saying visit this site if you really care about the real side of the story:

and that ( And the ONLY country who can separate the humanitarian needs of the Palestinians from the extremists in their society is ISRAEL) is soooo funny that i cant even reply on.

Hezbollah destroyed Lebanon years before Israel chose to disarm Hezbollah, as it needed to do many many years ago, and as the UN mandated in resolution 1559. Instead, the extremist elements of Lebanese society took the Lebanese civilians hostage, making them pay for the cowards who crate terror that not only terrorizes Israeli civilians but also has terrorized Palestinian and Lebanese civilians.

If you think that supporting a terrorist group will get you any good, learn from the wrest of the world, and visit the website you with pictures of destroyed buildings of Hezbollah and Hezbollah financiers and sypathisers. The destruction of the buildings will not stop the war. The full disarmament of the fanatic exremists who terrorize civilians will.

Its true, only true awereness and sympathy can provide humanitarian aid to those who need it if a government spends its money buying weapons. Israel has both the awereness of the lives of the Palestinian people and the sympathy that it can provide for them what thier own elected government cannot. If the previous governement was corrupt, then this govenrment is just the opposite. No money in the world will be able for it to lead its people to live out of poverty and in sub-humanitarian standard to be a self-sustaining society.

keep on good work....someday you may see the light maybe too late but what can we do the number of people demonstrating and supportin us with the lebaness all over the world is more than enough

justice and occupation will never come together speacially when the the world super power is supporting the injustice side ...thats my last word
God be with you
